These Ventura clients have utilized the main house on this property as a rental for many years. Their goal in building this ADU is to use it to gain additional rental income. They specifically asked for a 1 bedroom design because they did not want many additional people living on the property in order to provide more privacy and space between tenants, and also prevent parking woes.
Although we explained that they could have a comfy 1-bedroom ADU in 500 to 600 sqft (which is more of a popular size for a 1-bedroom ADU), our clients said that they plan to someday retire and live in the new ADU and would like for it to be comfortable. With that in mind, we worked to create an ADU with plenty of luxury space. This is mostly felt in the larger than average (for an ADU) bedroom, and a large open common area.
